Farm Description:

Prairie Birthday Farm produces edible and decorative flowers (dozens of varieties), fruit (25+ wild & heirloom), herbs (40+ varieties), and vegetables (15+ wild & heirloom) with rich, complex nutrient density for area chefs and eaters. Production practices aspire to a Great Plains traditional growing model more similar to that of Native American farmers who planted a wide variety of plants which would produce under different conditions rather than the current industrial model of large acreage, intensive, row cropped, synthetic chemical dependent mono-cultures. Without synthetic poisons, food may exhibit naturally occurring insect and disease "blemishes".

CSA Distribution Info: Why an Artisanal Food CSA?
Artisanal foods are the super foods of our region. They may be wild or naturalized and tend to survive in our local climate. Many are perennials, growing year after year with careful and intentional stewardship. This makes them a reliable and secure source of food. Once you learn what they are and how to work with them, you will have a great new resource for nutrient dense, unique ingredients to compliment your usual shopping list.. This is for the adventuresome cook and not the faint of culinary heart. This CSA is both local food and an education. A maximum of 5 of these shares are available.
CSA Share Structure: From the Farm or delivered into Kansas City (by arrangement) from about April to October. Share "holders" will get a weekly email describing products available and pricing.
CSA: What can shareholders expect in their share?: See product availability list on website for examples of possibilities.
